River
She stands on the cold, frosty metal railing, exhaling ghosts. Her tears freeze as they run down her pink cheeks, about the only color left in her life next to the obnoxious neon orange of the bridge surrounding her. She closes her eyes, squeezing out the sadness in them, burning her skin before they fall down her chin to the river, rushing and screaming below. Her bare feet were numb, toes hanging over the edge of the railing, shoes set carefully on the pavement behind her. Opening her eyes, the wind pelts her face and whips her dark hair around, waving like a flag of defeat. Defeat after years of nothing, for no purpose.
